I went out and checked the pond for frogspawn this morning, as it was another sunny day. I could see frogs moving about, but there was no spawn yet.
A couple of hours later, this had appeared – it’s still very dense, with the jelly not yet swollen up. I wonder whether the Pond Snail is having a jelly feast? I put a little bit of spawn in a tank, so I can watch the tadpoles develop, and then return them to the pond later on.

Best of luck with your experiment. Look forward to the follow up 🙂

Watch this space! 😀 I’ve kept them right through to baby froglets before, and then put them back into the pond. (Very important not to release them in a different pond though, as that can transfer disease.) They might even be safer in the tank, as there are fish and newts in the pond, and they both like to eat tadpoles. Yum!

It sounds like a great strategy to ensure the frog population doesn’t dwindle. 🙂

Last year was a dreadful year here for frogspawn. Thanks for reminding me to have a good peek around to see if I can find any this year. Great pic!

I caught them all at it this morning – at least ten frogs out there, singing and doing other stuff too. They looked rather like hippos. 🙂
